Heating & Cooling Inspection Montreal
Heating matters more in Montreal than almost anywhere, so this part of the inspection gets close attention. We operate the heating and air conditioning with their normal controls and open the access panels that the manufacturer provides for routine maintenance, when no tools are needed.
Our inspections are visual and follow the APCHQ Standard of Practice. We examine the systems and components that are readily accessible and safe to reach. We do not open walls, take equipment apart or move furniture and stored items.
What We Check in the Heating System
- The heating system, operated with its normal controls
- The energy source, such as electricity, natural gas or oil
- The type of equipment, such as a forced-air furnace, baseboard heaters, a boiler with radiators or a heat pump
- The type and location of the thermostat
- The exterior of the chimney
- The distribution system, including ducts, piping and radiators
- Any fuel tank, including its location, manufacture date, visible leaks and supports
- The fuel supply line, fill pipe and vent
What We Check in the Air Conditioning
- The central air conditioning, operated with its normal controls
- The type of equipment
- The location of the thermostat
- The distribution system
- The condensate drainage
What This Inspection Does Not Cover
- The inside of heat exchangers, fireboxes, burners, flues and chimneys
- Humidifiers, dehumidifiers, electronic air filters, geothermal and solar systems
- Whether heating or cooling is even and sufficient in each room
- Portable and window air conditioners
- Wood stoves, fireplaces and supplementary heaters
- Energy efficiency and operating costs

Oil tanks are still found in some older Montreal homes. When we find one, we note its location, its visible condition and the manufacture date shown on its plate.
